Why is formal education overrated in America?

I have a 4 year business degree in Business Marketing (BBA), but can’t find a job after applying for dozens and dozens of entry level marketing jobs because I don’t have any specific professional experience or I don’t know the right people. My teacher and counselor always told me that if you get a good education you won’t have to do clerical work for 20K a year like I am doing now. Why did they lie to me? I think I should have went to a trade school. Well rounded liberal arts education didn’t do a damn thing for me.

My friend, examine the last two sentences of your question. Good writing is critical to every professional job, and my bet is that it on the top of the list for marketing. In that field of work you are trying to interface with people and sell them on something.
