as a 45 yr old… no…ive never been without a job ….during highschool then military, then post college…ive always worked somewhere… restaurants, bars, stores.. then got real jobs… (as it were)… what your really facing is the dissappointment, shame, anger etc, of losing and not finding a like job for the same pay…. mixed with the pressure of the family…. as hard as this is to hear…..(im sorry)… you will have to get a job any job at least paying something and being able to put yourself out in the world doing something… for these purposes… 1. it gets you out of the house and the constant reminders of the home pressures..2. it allows you to earn a little while looking for a better situation…3.. it exposes you to other people who may generate a situation for you based on how they feel about you and your work ethic…4.. you are still adding to your experience and learned tasks…5… it sets up possiblilities for education and training depending on where you go….

since you have a little put back…you could go to a person who has work… eg.. plumbing, landscaping, electrician etc. and volunteer to ride along and learn for free…. try to develop relationships and contacts that would help you since youre helping yourself…..

good luck…

If you are 49 and have a family you need to be a lot more mature than that!

Yeah, I am pretty much going through the same, although i’m about half your age I keep getting this retarded lie told to me, "You are overqualified" even for positions / jobs that require alot of experience I can believe for dishwasher or warehouse (both which i’ve applied and my application just ends up in the trash).
Then the company hires someone, and two or three months at the most they are looking for someone else to fill the same position.
I think it’s all BS right now and hiring depts. need to start hiring people for their skills and abilities and not for the fact that they can exploit them or aren’t threats to their jobs. As most people do not come in and want to usurp the bosses job.
True at my last job, I was offered my bosses job, I didn’t take it because hey, i’m not going to put a noose to my neck for the same pay and zero benefits.
