hi, i don’t have a lot of money to invest, 0. and, i’ve heard that mutual funds are better than stocks if you don’t have a lot of money, in order to diversify. Question 1: but are there a lot of requirements when it comes to mutual funds; minimum investment, then monthly deposit, monthly fees (?) all i want is to invest this money and let it sit there for awhile (i can’t afford monthly deposits right now).
Question 2: is there a book that you can recommend, easy to read, investing for beginners?

Investment questions about inheriting a mutual fund?

By Trading Pro System · June 3, 2010 · Filed in Investing for Beginners · 4 Comments »

I was notified that I will be the benefiary of a mutual fund. The executor is going through probate and once he is approved by the court he said that I will be receiving a mutual fund from a friend that died. Probably in January.

Basically, I have a few questions because I’m not familiar with investing.
The mutual fund is an Evergreen Equity Income Fund (EVTRX) and it is valued at approx. -K. Would you advise having the fund transferred into my name or just cashing it in? What would be the pros and cons of each?
Would I be able to collect dividends on this? And if so, {content}.321 looks like it was the amount of the last dividend paid. Would that mean if I had 1000 shares that I would get a payment of 1.00? Is the dividend amount what you are paid out per share?

The date of my friends death the value was around .00 per share and today it is around .00. I was told that the cost basis would be at .00.

It seems like it would be in my best interest to keep the fund and not cash it in. Anyone familiar with investing have any advice? Also, any good websites about investing for beginners? Everything seems to be geared towards people with experience. Thanks for any help!

How does P/E ratio of stock affect the investor?

By Trading Pro System · April 30, 2010 · Filed in Investing for Beginners · 5 Comments »

Hello.

I’m trying to learn all I can investing for beginners. Through some reading though i’m at a point where i’m trying to understand the P/E ratio of stock.

I understand it to the point where you basically end up buying over-priced or under-priced stock. But how does this affect me? How will I see higher returns if i buy under-priced stock?

Any information is welcome. Thank you!
